Things to do on safari

Tanzania Safari Experiences

Game drives, balloon flights, walks, village visits and beach days. Pick the ones you want and we'll build your trip around them.

What can you do on a Tanzania safari?

Most safari days are built around game drives in the early morning and late afternoon, when animals move most. Around those drives you can add a balloon flight over the Serengeti, a walk with an armed ranger, a visit to a Maasai village or a few days on Zanzibar. Some activities depend on the park and the season. Walking, for example, is only allowed in some parks. Tell us what you want to see, and we'll plan the days around it. Our best time to visit guide covers the seasons.

The Great Migration

About 1.5 million wildebeest, with zebra and gazelle, follow the rain around the Serengeti all year. Where you stay depends on the month, so timing matters more than anything else.

January to March, southern Serengeti and Ndutu
River crossings
July to October, northern Serengeti
Where
The Serengeti ecosystem, all year round

Scenic flights

Fly-in safaris

Small planes link Arusha, the Serengeti, the southern parks and Zanzibar. You swap hours on dirt roads for a short flight, and that time goes into game drives.

  • Light aircraft between the parks and the coast
  • Less time on the road, more time on game drives
  • Reach remote parks such as Ruaha, Katavi and Nyerere
  • Easy to join with a Zanzibar stay

“Traveling with kids ages 8 and 11, we were nervous about a safari. Bald Eagle created a family-friendly itinerary that kept everyone engaged. The kids are still talking about the baby elephants in Tarangire!”
